1  News / Activities / The arrival of the Half Blood Prince on: July 15, 2005, 06:57:30 PM
Well, it's the day so many have been waiting for -- the new Harry Potter book comes out today (or tomorrow, but 24:00 counts!) and some of my friends have decided to be there for the midnight selling of the book.

While I'm far from a fanantic, I will be waiting with them.  Should be fun....

Anyone else an honorary Hogwarts alumnus/a?
2  Welcome Info! / Getting started... / I can read but I can't write! How do I start? on: July 14, 2005, 06:11:50 PM
Currently, anyone is free read through our discussions.  In computer talk this is called "lurking" -- it sounds creepy, but it is quite common in the online world.

However, if you want to add to the discussion, then you have to "register."  Don't wory -- it's easy, free and (pretty much) safe.  Here's how:

  • At the forum cover page, click on register in the top left (see Img_1 below),
  • fill in your screen name, e-mail and password (Img_2),
  • scroll down, click "I Agree" and then click "Register." (Img_3)

Voila!  Now you're all set to post.

3  Welcome Info! / Introductions / Hi -- My name is David! on: July 14, 2005, 05:46:52 PM
So I thought that I would start the Introductions by introducting myself!   Grin

I'm David Erroll, resident of New York City and son of John and Maria.  Currently, I'm finishing up the book that I wrote with my dad and am starting my job search.  (Rumor has it that I'm an attorney.)

The Erroll family website began as a solution for Errolls to have a portable, stable e-mail address, but I hope that it will become a way for us to stay in contact.

Since someone has to be "in charge," I am what is called the "administrator" of the board.  That means that if you need help with anything about the Erroll Family Forum, you should send me an e-mail or a personal message.  I'll do my best to help.

Happy posting!
David

4  Welcome Info! / Getting started... / What to expect.... on: July 12, 2005, 06:46:18 PM
The organization here is pretty basic right now.  That's because I can only guess what topics will come up!

If you have a topic for discussion, go ahead and start a new topic.  Others will read it and if they have something to add, they'll respond.  Try to remember that when you type, use "smilies" (like this -->  Wink ) as much as you need -- it's often easier to add one smilie than to write three posts to explain that you were just joking!

If you think that we should have a separate category (like ... um ... "Recipes" for instance) let me know.  I'll drop it in!

Happy posting!   Smiley
5  Welcome Info! / Getting started... / How do I change the language to (Finnish, Swedish, etc.)? on: July 12, 2005, 06:12:31 PM
This forum can be in many languages:  English, German, Dutch, Spanish, Finnish and Swedish for now and many others if you want!

Here's how:
  • Log in (or Register),
  • Click on "PROFILE,"
  • On the far left, choose "Account Related Settings,"
  • Choose your language from "Preferred Language,"
  • Go down to the bottom of the page,
  • Enter your password and click "Change Profile."

Done!
6  Welcome Info! / Introductions / Welcome, friends, family and well-wishers! on: July 11, 2005, 10:05:51 PM
On-line discussion forums are a great way to keep in touch, keep up to date and keep organized (for the web guy, that is).  Part of the fun is being able to choose your own name for use on-line.  Want to go by Mannerheim?  Or I_Like_Birds?  No problem!  You can do it here.

However, basic idea behind the Erroll Family forums is to have an orderly way for us to keep in touch with the people we know and love, even though we're a bit scattered.

So, if you're going to choose a name that's not your own, introduce yourself here.  Let us know who you are -- that way, everyone can enjoy the conversation.  (Also, you'll be helping me keep things secure.)

Have fun and we all look forward to meeting some new friends in this thread!
7  Welcome Info! / Getting started... / How do I...? on: July 10, 2005, 03:25:10 PM
Got a question about using the forum?  Or other stuff on errollfamily.com?

Check here -- I'll try to add some tutorials here as time goes by.  Until then, feel free to post you question as a new topic or in this thread.

The idea is for everyone to get the most out of our family's web site!
8  Welcome Info! / Getting started... / Getting started! on: July 10, 2005, 03:17:37 PM
This forum board is intended for us to keep in touch and stay up to date.  It's not just for the Erroll family, but for relatives and loved ones as well.  While membership is not currently restricted, it will be monitored closely.

I'm sure we don't need to go over all the rules we learned in the sand box, but as with all on-line communication, it's good to remember that tone can be easily misconstrued.

Let's have fun staying up to date!
9  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Welcome to SMF! on: July 10, 2005, 03:08:28 PM
Well, it seems that artificial intelligence is getting the best of us -- the welcome post was generated by the SMF program itself.

As the "administrator" here (ha!) I guess that means that it will be my job to make sure these fora don't get out of hand.  So I expect all you Errolls to behave yourselves and make my job easy... Wink

Happy Posting!
