Hey, there --

We've been back for about a week now and are starting to get back on US time.  If you haven't seen it, I posted a blog about the trip that I'll be leaving up for a while.  I'll also be posting more photos on my account at flickr.com.

Hope all's well.

Hi Maria & David,
Might be you will be on your way to Bhutan by now so you will find my reply only later.
Sounds like an exotic and exciting place - hope you will have a good trip!
My recent travelling has actually meant moving... since a couple of weeks I live and work in Helsinki!

I am testing the internet waters of our website.  What a wonderful prospect.             Maria

Well, there are still a few weeks left before my mom, Maria, and I take off for our trip to Bhutan -- we'll be there from October 28th until November 13th.  I think we're both getting excited about it and have bought good walking shoes.

According to the tour operator GeoExpeditions who is organizing the trip with Tibet House, they try to find good accomodations, but from time to time we'll have to make do.  Consequently, I don't know how often I'll be able to post pictures at Flickr.com or update my blog.  (But I'll certainly do all that when we get back!)

Well, it's the day so many have been waiting for -- the new Harry Potter book comes out today (or tomorrow, but 24:00 counts!) and some of my friends have decided to be there for the midnight selling of the book.

While I'm far from a fanantic, I will be waiting with them.  Should be fun....

Anyone else an honorary Hogwarts alumnus/a?

Currently, anyone is free read through our discussions.  In computer talk this is called "lurking" -- it sounds creepy, but it is quite common in the online world.

However, if you want to add to the discussion, then you have to "register."  Don't wory -- it's easy, free and (pretty much) safe.  Here's how:

  • At the forum cover page, click on register in the top left (see Img_1 below),
  • fill in your screen name, e-mail and password (Img_2),
  • scroll down, click "I Agree" and then click "Register." (Img_3)

Voila!  Now you're all set to post.

So I thought that I would start the Introductions by introducting myself!   Grin

I'm David Erroll, resident of New York City and son of John and Maria.  Currently, I'm finishing up the book that I wrote with my dad and am starting my job search.  (Rumor has it that I'm an attorney.)

The Erroll family website began as a solution for Errolls to have a portable, stable e-mail address, but I hope that it will become a way for us to stay in contact.

Since someone has to be "in charge," I am what is called the "administrator" of the board.  That means that if you need help with anything about the Erroll Family Forum, you should send me an e-mail or a personal message.  I'll do my best to help.

Happy posting!
David

The organization here is pretty basic right now.  That's because I can only guess what topics will come up!

If you have a topic for discussion, go ahead and start a new topic.  Others will read it and if they have something to add, they'll respond.  Try to remember that when you type, use "smilies" (like this -->  Wink ) as much as you need -- it's often easier to add one smilie than to write three posts to explain that you were just joking!

If you think that we should have a separate category (like ... um ... "Recipes" for instance) let me know.  I'll drop it in!

Happy posting!   Smiley

This forum can be in many languages:  English, German, Dutch, Spanish, Finnish and Swedish for now and many others if you want!

Here's how:
  • Log in (or Register),
  • Click on "PROFILE,"
  • On the far left, choose "Account Related Settings,"
  • Choose your language from "Preferred Language,"
  • Go down to the bottom of the page,
  • Enter your password and click "Change Profile."

Done!

On-line discussion forums are a great way to keep in touch, keep up to date and keep organized (for the web guy, that is).  Part of the fun is being able to choose your own name for use on-line.  Want to go by Mannerheim?  Or I_Like_Birds?  No problem!  You can do it here.

However, basic idea behind the Erroll Family forums is to have an orderly way for us to keep in touch with the people we know and love, even though we're a bit scattered.

So, if you're going to choose a name that's not your own, introduce yourself here.  Let us know who you are -- that way, everyone can enjoy the conversation.  (Also, you'll be helping me keep things secure.)

Have fun and we all look forward to meeting some new friends in this thread!
